First time I did N5 there was no clock and I had no watch. It was the worst.

After that I bought a cheap watch which I don’t know where I put now , but after the first time, all locations I have gone have a clock in the wall.

If I have to add something for the listening, while you can take notes on the exam sheet and then transfer to the answer sheet, don’t do that in the listening.

As soon as the recording says the number of the next problem, you should have already filled down the answer. You won’t have time after that.

Also don’t open the exam sheets until they tell you. And once they tell you, do a quick glance at all the pages to see if you have all the pages properly printed. Raise hand if there’s a problem with the print out.

They explain this, but I’ve seen people (maybe because they are nervous af) make the mistake.

I find it unbelievable that there would be no clock in an exam setting. :man_facepalming:
Ordered a cheap analogue watch that I’m hoping will arrive in time.

Damn I did not know they did not have watches, last time I took the test they had one. Thanks for the notice, I will have to try to buy a cheap one soon then!

I hope you realize that this is just giving me more anxiety, @Megumin! Updating the days like that. I’m only doing the best I can! :japanese_ogre:

I can think of only one reason if it’s variable. Some wall clocks have that protective plastic/glass layer on top, and that can be reflective. Perhaps They believe someone can (somehow) copy answers of other takers off of that. Kind of a stretch, but that’s my literal only explanation I can think of

Only 24 N3 grammar points to go and I can pretend I belong in the room on Sunday!

If people are actually capable of doing this, they deserve the extra marks!

I know, right? That’s a mutant ability, lol.

But, seriously, in the sheet that explains all the requirements of my location (which is Miami, FL) they do mention that there will be NO CLOCKS in my classroom, and that I can only bring an analog watch that doesn’t beep. If anything beeps, or even vibrates, during the test you’ll get disqualified immediately (even if it was by accident). They’re not f*** around.

That’s why I was asking if they at least gave you warnings about the time, but they don’t apparently. I’m not sure why they have to be so militant about it, but those are the rules. At least now you know to be prepared for it, just in case.

Good luck everyone!!

For me the exams start on Saturday in Japan from my timezone perspective

Edited, I arrived tired from work yesterday.

I think that’s taking immersion too far, living by Japan’s timezone

As there are only like 14h left for Japan and Australia for the exam, I’ll remind the DOs and DO NOTs that we were told for the first timers:

DO:

  • Bring pencil HB, eraser, sharpener
  • Bring printed voucher and ID
  • (Recommended) Bring analog wrist watch, some locations don’t have a clock visible.

DO NOTs:

  • Don’t share the exam questions online, even more when not all time zones have gone through the exam (Take in mind that sometimes, they have ways to tell where the leaked questions came from).
  • Have any devices ON, even in mute mode, as it can interfere with the listening. If a device rings, it could be a red card.

Pointless stuff:

  • Sharing your answer sheets with someone, as the questions are shuffled, sometimes even in the same location.

Aside from obvious stuff like cheating, I think I haven’t left anything behind (feel free to point me if I did)

But most important:

がんばりましょう!

Some other points:

  • Get to the location on time and give yourself some buffer time for emergencies! At least 15 to 30 min. On my second test, I somehow got to the university and sat on my chair in the exam room with only like 20 seconds before the exam started! Its not an experience I want to repeat again haha

  • Also bring a snack + water to have something during the breaks as the exams take a long time.

Did this for my final final at university. Exam hall was a 15minute walk away, with ten minutes to go I was still sat with a controller in my hand on the sofa. I ran through the rain, arriving denched and flinging the exam hall doors open like it was the ending to some rom-com movie.
Literally writing for 3 hours whilst soaked and dripping on to the answer sheet is not recommended. Still cool story though

UPDATE: Analogue watch has arrived!

Oh you’re funny, acting like anyone has a right answer to share in the first place
