JLPT December 2025

Hey, what do you guys make of this? I’ve been looking at the University of Gent in Belgium for taking the December test. Their web page only seems to make mention of application via paper form: JLPT TEST IN GHENT – Japan aan de UGent

If it says that “the registration process will start 1 august 2025”, what does that practically mean for paper applications? For example, if your mail-in form arrives a day early, will they ignore and discard it? Conversely, if it arrives a day late, do you reckon the maximum number of applicants might have already been reached? If there’s anyone with prior experience signing up at Gent, I’d be thrilled to hear it.

I wasn’t as far as you in my N4 and I passed the N5 last year (listening nearly killed me though) - I’m about as far as you so far in vocab and a 3rd thru the grammer and will do N4 this year for no other good reason than going to Honolulu for a couple days and if I fail I can go next year too - LOL

I would go ahead and take N4 with what you got - we’re very similar on wanikani levels too (I’ve stopped at level 32 kanji to focus on vocab and grammar points till Dec and brining my reviews WAY down - LOL)

good luck

I passed N5 in December 2024, was too lazy to sit N4 in July 2025, so I’ll try my hand at it in December.

I passed N5 in December 2024 and was content to wait again till December 2025! I’m still undecided about taking the N4 or N3, mainly because I’ve been behind on my studies lately. I can’t imagine getting through all the N3 material in time. :upside_down_face:
But, I’ll be taking something at least!

Yeah, my eternal dilemma, too. I guess it would be possible for me to go for N3 (honestly, I don’t feel much difference between N5 and N4 questions or tests, I have also walked through the whole N4 grammar deck on Bunpro long ago), but I prefer to take things slow, this is supposed to be a hobby, not a grindfest and N3 would require a substantial amount of work. Also, I’m not a fan of speed-running through grammar instead of letting it naturally sink in over time, it’s better to repeat the basics once more. So, N4 it is in my case.

Well, I’m targeting a JLPT N4 in December without trying for an N5 first… whish me luck🤞

So on Stuttgart you need to apply without knowing the results?. That’s lame.
I failed N5 on December 2024, got the N5 Test again on July (and even i felt a bit better, I’m not sure if i will pass)
I’m almost sure I won’t apply for N4 on December 2025, but if I fail N5 for the second time, I probably would apply again for N5. Let’s hope on September (when Madrid usually open applications) we know already the July results.

stuttgart only offers the winter test.

I mailed my documents for N2 today  Any other Stuttgart test takers around?

Lots of folks skip right to N4 (myself included), so I’m sure you’ve got this!

and totally off topic but @HannahEU may I commend your taste in profile pictures? I recently bought a Japanese set of the manga and I’m very excited to tackle it as reading practice.

:eyes:!!! Thank you! I love finding other D-Gray Man fans!
The 29th book was released earlier this month too! I didn’t even know till I saw it at 7/11. The fastest purchase I’ve ever made. :money_with_wings:
I’m so excited to read more :sob:
(sorry yall, I’ve got no clue how to make my font tiny and inconspicuous. @Ayara012 How’d you do that?)

Oh my god same - I had bought 1-28 literally the day before (bookoff my beloved) and so when I saw that Lawson had ONE copy of 29 I snatched that so fast. I’ll probably catch up with the Japanese version before I try to read 29, though, because it has been a hot minute since I read it in English. I do love using manga for reading practice though! Even if my genre tastes don’t always wind up teaching me the most useful vocabulary for everyday purposes

And on the topic of the thread - I feel that reading manga, even if it isn’t using the most relevant vocabulary, still helps with reading speed for test purposes. So win-win!

To do this, you type < small > without the spaces. If you need to go back to normal, type < /small > after the bit you want tiny-fied.

I passed N2 in 2017 then went 7 years without even thinking about Japanese but I’m gonna go for N1 in December, been studying/immersing pretty intensively to give myself a shot.

Passed N4 in December 2023; if I can get a seat in London, I’ll be going for N3… Want to get that 3rd certificate on the wall

I have no absolutely no reason to, but I’m thinking about signing up for N5 (comfortable) or N4 (ambitious) in December just to have a “milestone” on paper

After being reflecting about it, I’ve decided I’ll be skipping the December test. I took N5 last December and N4 this July (and not hundred percent sure I’ll pass it just due to the listening section). I plan to continue studying, but I feel the 2000 vocab + 200 grammar items for N3, plus trying to focus more on listening side, would require rushing a lot with the time I currently have, so I’m planning instead for N3 next year. Good luck to everyone going for it!!

Hello, already checked-in for Dec 2025 - N3, but will be a big step from N4 after 2 years of procrastination. Any tips are welcome.

Yeah good call. I took a year out of JLPT activites in 2024 between N4 and N3, just to do more reading and listening practice.

if there’s one thing i’ve learned from my 4 jlpts, it’s this:
read.
a lot more.
and when you think you’ve read enough,
read even more!

Thanks Erz, it’s so true. Right now, I tend to avoid (逃げる) when I see long text, but I know that I have to do it. Thanks for reminding me how crucial it is.
