Whether I sit the N3 in December will depend on how I did yesterday. I felt comfortable with everything except the listening section. If I passed, I’ll skip December and focus on hitting the N2 next year. If I failed, I’ll try the N3 again in December.
I took N2 yesterday and completely fumbled the reading section (and the vocab section too probably) so, after a little break for this month, I will be locking in once again
I may be going for the test in December? Not quite sure - if I failed yesterday’s N2 then it would make sense to give it another shot after some vocab/listening focus, but if I passed it would probably be too soon for me to try N1.
But also, I’ll likely only have December and next summer if I want to take the exam here in Japan, so… We shall see.
In the meantime, I know my vocabulary and listening need work, so I’ll be working on those regardless!
And trying to knock out some of my many, many manga.
I am going to give N1 a go as well.
Took N3 yesterday. Gonna aim for N2 this December.
頑張りましょう!
gonna make an attempt at N3 in december! i was thinking about trying in July, but i decided to hold off to give myself some more breathing room
Hey all, cheering for you.
Taking N2 this December, then N1 next year. I could probably go for N1 if I had more bandwidth to review kanji but life and business is busy here.
The plan is to finish going through my Bunpro N2 grammar and vocab cards by September while also just doing a lot, lot of reading practice. Shinkanzen books to review and practice tests after September.
I suspect possums are behind this …
Same here, let’s see.
Fingers crossed that we pass. I am not that comfortable to go through another intensive exam preparation period so soon. I need a break, and not the chocolate type.
Here we go! I’m going to be taking the N2 come December, it’ll be my first time taking the real thing so we’ll see how badly I fail this winter
I did the N4 yesterday and pretty confident I passed. Really wondering if I should try for N3 in December, or wait untill July 2027.
(I started about a year ago from absolutely zero Japanese to N4 - But I guess the gap from N4 to N3 will take about the same amount of time from zero to N4.)
I say go for it now, if you have the money! N4 to N3 is a leap but its doable in 6 months imo (I did it in 6 months at least)
It would mean around 1.5 new grammer points a day and 13 new vocab a day to round out the Bunpro N3 decks in 5 months, before the December exam.
I wrapped up N4 in the last 2-3 months with 2 new grammer points a day and 10 new vocab a day, which was doable but was a bit demanding besides my full time job. Also my reading & listening input had a mayor set-back due to the time it took for this.
So I’m still a bit hesitant, but it seems doable.
hey everyone! hoping to take N3 this december, shocked that i passed the bunpro mock yesterday, as i only started the transition from N4 around a month ago 🥹 been studying an ungodly amount of hours daily though (gotta make the most out of being unemployed somehow), so here’s to hoping it’ll pay off in the end!
Because of the value that an N2/N1 Pass Certificate can hold for jobs, uni applications and visas, Imma wait and see my results for 7/2026 N2. If I failed, second time’s the charm hopefully. If I passed, then it’s time to start taking N1 over and over again until I pass
It’s not necessary to max out all of those things! In fact, I would recommend against it. You’re better having a strong base of 1000 words and 100 grammar points than a really wobbly base of 2000 words and 200 grammar points. Of course I just plucked those numbers out of thin air, but you get what I mean. Just aim for 75 percent!
Pareto this at 80% even, as the saying goes 20% of vocabulary makes up 80% of JLPT questions
Triple down on listening honestly, I just took N4 yesterday and the speech was fast as hell and very confusing. Find some comprehensible input and listen to it sped up, not slowed down. Trust me.
Every other part of the test went really smoothly for me, but my reading’s always been ahead of everything else.
If I failed the N4 yesterday (which I doubt, but still) I will be re-taking it in December. Otherwise I’ll probably skip it and take N3 next year July. I want to give myself some time off after the massive effort I put in to get myself ready for N4 in a few months.
Of course I am already looking at N3 prep books so there’s always a chance I decide to just go for it after all
Yeah I know - but it’s a good measure for myself to compare how much I am capable of doing in 6 or 12 months. Definitely sounds doable for vocab and grammer.
I do need a new learning method for Kanji though. Used WaniKani before but I’m encountering to much duplicate vocab on top of Bunpro decks I’m doing - which takes up a lot of time. It took me a year to get to WaniKani level 10 - even though I already know all kanji up to N4 and a lot of N3 kanji lol.
Maybe I’ll give Heisig a chance, and just use my vocab reviews to learn the associated readings. (Did a similar thing with the final 30 or so Kanji I needed to learn for N4 last weekend and known them all by heart now, so seems to work for my brain.)
