JLPT December 2026

Trying N3 this December. That was my goal last year, but I dropped off from studying. This year will be better though. :+1: Good luck, everyone.

Trying for N3 here!! Not sure if I’ll pass, when registration comes around after doing some mock tests I might settle for N4 instead. First time taking a JLPT so looking forward to it!

No July test here, so I’m skipping directly from N5 last December to N3 this year.

I was vastly over-prepared last time (probably could’ve done N4 instead), so I think I’ll be ready. :muscle:

I‘ll 100% try the JLPT this year

But it sucks that Registration is so early

I‘m not sure if i‘ll be able to do N3 (probably not) so i think i‘ll choose N4 just to be safe

N3 or N2 would give me a higher salary at my part time job tho

I’m 100% going to be taking the N5 this December! I think in a more ambitious world, I may be able to aim for N4, but I’m going to take it easy and aim for a goal that’s more likely to be achievable for me.

I’ll be taking my first N5 practice test on here in two weeks, then one per month after that. I’m sure I’ll need to work on reading speed and listening comprehension, but we’ll see how it goes!

I’m going for N2! I haven’t taken an official JLPT exam yet, so I’m hoping all goes well.

hopefully i can pass N5 mock tests by end of summer. i probably wont be able to go to december jlpt because i live in a rural part of maryland so everything is far away. ill probably take 2027 summer N4 because traveling 5 hours for N5 doesnt seem that worth it

Going to go for N5 this December!! I’ve been studying like crazy since march and passing the mock exams for a while now, so I’m super confident with another 6 months I’ll pass the real thing!

There isn’t a July JLPT in the US, only December, sadly.

Honestly, as long as you’re not in a position where you need some kind of JLPT certificate for something, then I’d say just go for N3 even if you’re not confident in passing. Especially if it’s your first time, and especially if the certificate of the level higher actually holds some tangible benefit in the long run. Even if you fail, learning is the goal so this could be an opportunity to push yourself!!

Felt very comfortable leaving N3 the other day, hoping to challenge N2 in December but not sure how hard I want to lock in for it lol. Trying to avoid turning a hobby into a chore :stuck_out_tongue:

If you get higher salary with N3, why not going for it?

The outcome is the same, if you do not pass N3, but you pass N4, same money. But if you have a chance and you pass N3, you get more money.

I was in the same situation with Spanish years ago, I needed to pass C1. I did not even look at the lower level exams. I barely passed, but the only thing that mattered is to pass the exam and voila, higher salary.

I’m going to take N4 this winter. I still have a lotttt of ground left to cover, but considering how little I knew when I passed N5 last summer, I think I can pull it off!

To everyone who took the July JLPT as well, how do you go about registering for the December JLPT? I just saw that the registration period in my area ends on July 31st, which is unlucky since we will only receive the results for the July one in late August – how do you guys decide about registering?

Sounds surprising to me. In Poland, where I take JLPT, registration process starts shortly after the announcement of the past exam results, so you know where you are currently at before making a decision.

It might sound dumb and expensive, but if there is a JLPT held in any neighboring country, maybe you could try and register for two exams at two different N-levels? One in your country and another one in the closest JLPT point abroad, then decide which one to take based on the past exam results. I’m not sure though, if the system will let you register twice using the same personal ID number (I don’t know whether different countries share the same database for all participants worldwide or not).

It’s similar for the most convenient exam centre near me that registrations open (and fill up) before notifications of the exam results. Different test centres do different timings, but many won’t have that luxury.

I think I’m very lucky to be living in Japan and having like 24/7 listening practice, but I have a good feeling about the N2 in december.
