Let's play Standard Shiritori! しりとりをしましょう!

自立 (じりつ)Independence
=====
ちょっと質問がある: 例えば、先の人が「強調・きょうちょう」を投稿した場合は。今は私のターン。私は「挑戦・ちょうせん」を投稿する?それとも「さぎ」?どちらもいいですか?
=====
Small question: For example, suppose the previous person posted 「強調・きょうちょう」. Now it’s my turn. Do I post 「挑戦・ちょうせん」? Or 「さぎ」? Are they both good?

The initial entry of this thread said that:

“Shiritori (しりとり) is a Japanese game in which the players are required to say a word which begins with the final kana of the previous word (shameless wikipedia copy pasta).”

So for 「強調・きょうちょう 」 it should be 「 さぎ」. (Actually, 「挑戦・ちょう せん」wouldn’t work because it ends in ん!)

I posted the rules here, which serves as a really good practice:

BTW, I actually ‘cheated’ in this entry:

Finally, 次の単語は, 一日 (ついたち) - first day of the month

That entry lists some differences between ways people play (「個人によって少しずつ違い」), and whether to include vowels (母音) vs just kana seems to be one of them. Oh yeah woops forgot the 「ん」rule again :sweat_smile:. So let’s say that I’m saying that depending on the rule 調整(ちょうせい)would be OK as well as うさぎ。(?)

I found a Cure Dolly site that explains some more rules about long vowels. And a few of us came into agreement that it would be better to use the last 2 kana of the word.

Basically, if our word ended with ちょう either う or よ would be an acceptable answer. The problem with a lot of words is they tend to end with long vowels, so in order to keep the game flowing, we made a slight edit to the rules.

積ん読 (つんどく) - stockpiling books, buying books that you might read (or not)

Actually, it’s a word play with 積んでおく in its casual form, 積んどく, piling something in advance (for a rainy day).

ゆっくり - at one’s leisure (can also be used together with する)

This word has a particular use in the noun ゆっくり地震, silent earthquake. Kind of ironic, seeing the original meaning of ゆっくり.
