Technically you’re supposed to go off of the 「り」of 「しりとり」 when starting a new game, yes.
However, we’ve been starting a lot of new games recently, and the entire thread started off with the word 「文法」or “Grammar”, so I don’t see a problem with looking past this

Technically you are correct, but at least in this thread it’s been fine to start with whichever word you want after しりとり. However, everything after that first word must follow the rules.
次のは歴史的 (れきしてき) = Historical.
