ナツコイ ハマルヤ lyrics translation

A friend of mine asked me to translate the lyrics of the song ナツコイ ハマルヤ by ザ・ヒーナキャット. I found it quite a difficult but interesting task, so I thought maybe we could try and translate it together. Moreover the song is quite catchy…

Here are the lyrics I’ve found on the internet (and tweaked a bit after listening to the song on Youtube)

As you can see, there are onomatopoeia, katakana where there should be kanjis and, as always, a lot of things to guess (subjects? No way…).

Here is my tentative translation with explanation.
ナツコイハマルヤ
I thing ナツコイ may be a pun on 夏恋 (summer love) and 懐こい (amiable). I understood ハマルヤ as “addicted (嵌る: to be deeply into) person (や)” (or maybe “stalker” if it is not too strong?). So it could be either “summer love addicted person” or “amiable addicted person”

ギラギラ 照りつけて (glaringly) you blazed and
ジラジラ 焼き付ける (flickering) became etched in my memory
イライラ させるだけ (irritating) against my will (my attempt to translate causative…)
ジラジラ seems to be a typo here because I haven’t found anything on the interneter, so it should probably be チラチラ as in the other parts.

鈍感な君は気づいてくれないね insensitive you don’t become aware of
あたしの気持ちなんて how much I feel
鈍感な君とオシャレして出かけるの dressing elegantly and going out with you insensitive
最高の思い出作るの and make the best memories

キラキラ 輝いて (glaringly) you shone and
チラチラ 誘い出す (flickering) lured me
ハラハラ させるだけ (trembling with fear) against my will

鈍感な君に気づいて欲しいのに althought I want you insensitive to notice
一歩が出せないあたし I can’t make a step
鈍感な君を誘い出せたらいいな I would enjoy if I could invite you out
最高の思い出になるの becoming your best memory

What do you think? Any idea on how to improve this?

How about
‘summer love addict’. I didn’t get the title right away, these simple word plays can be tricky

Thought this was based on くれる which I take “not giving (me) attention”. 鈍感な君, would be nice to have single noun, I’m thinking ‘dumbass’ or ‘clueless’ which I would chalk up ‘enduring insults’. Same with 鈍感な君に気づいて欲しいのに like “Though I want you to notice me, dummy”. May not the be the best either, there may be more elegant choice out there.

These are mostly just english choices, but I just glanced through you did all the work! Songs get weird sometimes but this was nice one to read, thx for sharing!

I see you’ve already sent a translation to your friend, so this post will not be of any use, but I couldn’t resist trying my hand at translating the lyrics myself. @MZa , would you mind posting the translation you sent too? I’m quite curious ^^

I first translated it as “Addicted to summer love”, but I’m more in favour of @s1212z ’s “Summer love addict” . The other thing I was most conflicted about was translating 鈍感な君 as either “insensitive you” or “thick-headed you”. I felt insensitive was better fitting all things considered.
