Metrics Feature Idea: Goal Predictor

Thanks as always to the Bunpro team for the constant updates and improvements to the site!

I’ve found over the course of using the app that I’m often looking at how many grammar points until I reach the next JLPT level and then doing a bunch of calculations to predict how many days it’ll take me to reach my next goal based on a certain number of lessons per day and thought that some metrics on this would be really nice!

For example to look at a user’s activity over a certain time period (i.e. 30 days) and have a predictor show how long it’ll take for them to reach a set goal (i.e. N2) based on their current pace. I’d honestly find a feature like this to be really motivating to stay consistent with my studies.

I think initially/at some stage we were planning on having a countdown somewhere inside this dropdown.

Maybe we could have it at the end of the Learn Quiz too?

“At this pace, you’ll finish this this Deck in XXX days!”

Personally, I dont see any downside to that!

I’d prefer in the review stats, next to x reviews also n items added in the past 30 days. It makes the calculation easier,
but if I saw “you will finish N3 in 1000+ days.” I’d be heart broken
Where as “100 reviews and 5 new” in the past 30 days is motivating to me

I agree with this, I would actually rather not know. I understand how for some people it’s a useful tool, so I’m not against it. However I would like to either be able to opt out or for it to be somewhere that is easily ignored.

I definitely understand other users not wanting to see it all the time or worry about it making dropdowns busy etc!

Honestly, it would be awesome to eventually have a separate area for learning / progress statistics under ‘my bunpro’ in the profile dropdown.

Someone did something similar as a separate site using the wanikani API (wkstats):

I leave my goal set to 0 and just do lessons “whenever”. Will I get a message like “Sorry, you will never reach N3 :pensive:”? Hahaha

Huh, that’s actually really interesting, what advantages does this setup offer for you?

I guess just reducing the pressure of having to match the goal every day? Right now I’m taking it easy. In any case it’s very convenient to have the decks queued up in the dashboard.

Also if I do any lessons with a goal of 0, anything is extra study so I can feel good about myself haha
