So I’ve been using Bunpro for a while and I’m mostly through the n2 grammar and thought I would make a review on my thoughts : D
thank you very much for this review. it motivates me to keep studying.
Im curious to know at what pace did you add new lesson.
I would love if other users would do something similar to the level 60 post on wanikani or review like you did
Liked your review it covered all bases neatly, especially agree on the optional gating, it’s the one feature I personally feel is really holding some people I’ve spoken to back from fully engaging with BunPro! Really liked your energy / presentation ^^
Thanks for your review!
It was very well thought out, and covers a lot of fundamental areas that Bunpro focuses on!
We are always doing out best to improve all areas of the website, whether it be nuance information, or how close a certain sentence is to what it needs to be translated to. The fact that you felt that there was very little missing is very good news for us! (Although we will definitely try to keep improving regardless!)
Keep going with your youtube stuff, it’s great! We will also continue to work on our in-house explanations in future as well. We’d love to be able to not need to link you to other websites, as we want to make this a place where eveything you need is right at your fingertips.
Thanks again for the review!
Have an awesome day!
Oooh, did not know this was on the roadmap, would love this ^^
Noooo, I have given too much away!
Hahah but seriously, we will always try to think of ways that we can make this a one-stop-shop. What does get implemented, and what doesn’t get implemented is beyond my control, but in house explanations would be great!
Someone is going to get some obscure grammar supplementary lessons for breaching NDA as punishment
I watched it a few weeks ago (I just randomly stumbled upon it) and I enjoyed your video.
Thank you for your kind words : D
Actually I don’t even totally mind external stuff because I think Tae Kim is basically a+ for everything he wrote–maybe you could pay him to use his explanantions directly on the site or something, haha.
Very cool review, might want to check your white balance for outside recording though. Personally I like that bunpro (also it’s pronounced boonpro??? still gonna call it bun like a bunny rabbit) is very lax on structure. They give you a recommendation on what you should learn and in what order but let you do what you want. That’s one thing I disliked about wanikani you only learn what they say when they say until they give you something else and you get zero say in what it is. I don’t know maybe I like to pretend to be a rebel but I just don’t like being forced to do it one way. If I’m gonna learn it I wanna learn it on my terms! >:C
Beyond that I think I agree with all your points, have fun making videos!
It’s a pun on 文法.
Thank you for the kind words friend : D
I kinda like this too, as it lets you follow other things like textbooks. But some peoole might do better with a little more structure.
Yeah the white balance was kinda off for parts of it, the clouds kept changing which changed the lighting around hahaha.
Slower than I’d like! I’ve put more time into kanji than grammar, and also I’ve been attending language school so going through Bunpro has been slower than I’d like! I’m about 3/4 through N2 and I’ve been using it for about 2 years, so you can math that out haha.
Nice review, glad it was done recently rather with improvements rather than prior given recent upgrades; there is the new reader tool if not aware that is pretty cool too. Plenty of Davie nods, haha.
Others many not agree but I don’t favor gating content, I find the autonomy of BP one of it’s greatest strengths actually. Whether novice, intermediate or advanced, anyone can hit the ground running here. If you need to focus on a specific JLPT level, you can do it. The autonomy thing ties into the subscription model choice as well; WK bottleneck many users into lifetime given it’s single course while someone here could easily have a year subscription just to focus their problem grammar…which ironically is insanely cheap for BP (half the lifetime price for BP); BP give alot of value in the user’s favor. At least they made an effort on a native app, don’t want to be over-dependent on community mods to script out platform development. Ideally I want scripts just to enhance the experience as need be, not a duct tape solution that is fully depended to make life livable.
The WK API only works to a point in my experience. There is a ton of vocab on here that is not in the in the WK library that I’ve mined for my own personal use. As for WK and BP as the only things you need, that is a ‘no’ for me… maybe if you only want to consume media then it probably works. I find them on opposite ends of the spectrum though. WK is a comprehension exercise while BP is an output exercise, great if you want to speak the language…the reinforcement required is just different and end goals of reading content versus conversing (or even preparing for JLPT) though similar are very different…so I think they cater to different language goals to some extent.
As for content links for explanations, the only issue I had was linking stackexchange conversations where I don’t know if it could be trusted or not. And I only use them when needed, certainly not every point because there are already so many example sentences…TK or Maggie Sensei is always solid though. But I never expected the platform to replace 2700+ pages of grammar dictionary explanations…certainly not at this price point which is already very underpriced as is. Ambitious if they go with their own explanations, that would be pretty slick!
Personally I don’t mind not having it at all but I feel like it’d be good for a number of people out there since it’ll give you a better measure of how many lessons to take on and give you a better since of progress
That sounds really great. I was very happy to read that.
