Hey Everyone!
Today, I would like to make an announcement regarding the N1 grammar hints!
Unique Hints
Over the past few months, we have gone through a large number of attempted answers for N1 grammar and added about 7,000-ish new hints.
These new hints have been written in a way that better guides learners to the answer we are looking for by explaining why a submitted answer does not work.
For example, for the grammar point Verb[γ¦] + γΏγγ, if the answer we are looking for is εΏγγ¦θ¦γγΎγ and εΏγγ¦γγ is submitted as an answer, it would trigger a hint that says 'γ¦γγ can express strong determination, but it often carries a rough, defiant, or confrontational tone. We are looking for a grammar point that expresses strong determination to do something and prove or demonstrate the resultβ.
As with the N4-N2 hint updates, we decided to write new unique hints instead of solely relying on our standard hints so that our students are led to the grammar point we are looking for without giving away too much, instead of getting stuck in a loop of potentially similar answers.
Clear distinction between Alternate and Wrong answers
We followed the same criteria as we did when we created new hints for N4-N2.
Alternate answers
:
- Correct grammar and conjugation, but tense or politeness is off
Example: ι£γΉγ instead of ι£γΉγΎγ.
- Not the targeted grammar point, but meaning is close
Example: γγγ instead of ι . (This is a grey area, but if it makes sense in the context of the sentence, we count it as an alternate answer, but if it does not we count it as a wrong answer).
- Slight entry errors
Example: γ‘γγ instead of γ‘γ γ.
Wrong Answers
:
- Incorrect grammar usage
Example: Using γ«γγ when γγγ should be used.
- Ungrammatical answers
Example: Incorrect conjugation and ungrammatical use of grammar points (eg. using a grammar point with a noun when they can only be used with a verb).
Final Notes
With this update, we only added hints for attempted answers that currently lacked hints, and did not make changes to already existing hints. However, we will likely go through existing hints to βfine tuneβ them so that they follow the same format, and to improve our hint system for grammar points that have less helpful hints even further.
Now that we have hints for grammar points up to N1, we will start going through attempted answers for N5 and N4 to βfine tuneβ existing hints to make them less vague and more helpful. Look out for another post when some of those are done!
Thank you for your continuous support and feedback that helps make Bunpro a great learning tool! We hope that this update improves your learning journey!
