For N4 Lesson 2: 12 about そういう, the second reading link (to r/LearnJapanese) says that “Rules are the same as any other time you use a verb to modify a noun as a relative clause, so you’ll also see いう in the past tense as いった”. However, all the examples I’ve seen (including both the examples on BunPro and the examples from the TaeKim reading) do not use いった to modify verbs. For example, both BunPro and TaeKim use “そういう人” for “someone like that”. Is the second reading wrong that “いった” should be used when modifying a noun? Am I missing something and this is not a case of modifying a noun with the verb in a normal way? Is it done both ways (and if so, is there a reason to pick one way over the other)? Or something else? Thank you much!
そういった is “less direct” therefore more polite in speech. It is also used in writing.
そういう is used more often, including writing/situations when you want to be polite etc.
To sum up, the use of そういった is more limited, it is a little bit more formal, but そういう also works great in situations when そういった can be used. So those two are mostly the same.
