New Grammar! (May 2026)

Hello There

Hope you’re all doing well out there!

This post is to officially announce the new grammar points we have added over the previous weeks. The majority of the new points come via user requests and feedback, so thank you for all your input and suggestions! :bowing_man:

We will continue to add more and more between working on other major projects coming out in the not-too-distant future!

The New Grammar :books:

Without further ado, here is the list:

  • を境に - (N1) A not uncommon grammar point for expressing clear delineations in time
  • のみ - (N2) A very common formal word “only”; you’ll see this one in Japanese work places a lot
  • させてもらう - (N3) A useful but possibly tricky phrase used to soften statements about what you’re doing
  • が・の (Subject) - (N5) A slightly harder concept for N5, but an important one for understanding how relative clauses work in Japanese
  • の (Questions) - (N5) An extension of grammar we already teach but focusing specifically on usage in questions
  • って感じ - (N4) An extremely common casual phrase for describing how things feel
  • の次に - (N4) A common phrase used to express ranking/order
  • - (N2) A suffix with a little more nuance than it may first appear
  • - (N2) Another suffix which can be treated as a pair with the one above (弱)
  • ~たはいいが - (N1) A phrase which could be grammatically confusing when unfamiliar
  • くは - (N4) A pattern which highlights the nuances of は
  • かかる (Time/Price) - (N4) One of the perhaps less intuitive uses of かかる
  • する (Have/Wear) - (N4) One of the perhaps less intuitive uses of する
  • する (Cost) - (N4) Another one of the perhaps less intuitive uses of する
  • を顧みず - (N1) A stiff but not necessarily uncommon phrase often used with particular collocations
(The points below were added a couple of months prior but not previously announced)
  • なぜ - (N5) Why?
  • どうして - (N5) Why?!
  • なんで - (N5) WHY?!?!
  • ~ばと思います - (N2) A commonly heard phrase in specific polite and formal situations
  • づらい - (N4) A much requested point, completing the triplets of difficulty alongside にくい and がたい

As you can see, our current priority is generally targeting common grammar/phrases (although we have many wonderful esoteric suggestions and ideas locked away for the future :eyes:).

A Little Extra :gift_heart:

We have also added nuance hints to 37 grammar points which were previously lacking them, including all points from the Kansai-ben deck, and various other grammar points.

And audio has now been added to any points which were previously missing it (and the new points as well, of course)!

As mentioned, many of our new points come from user requests, so if you think we are missing something important, then please let us know via feedback or check out this thread.

Thanks again for all of your support, and we hope that you continue to enjoy studying with us here on Bunpro!

Thank you! Much appreciated.

Not to ruin the ambiance but when will the vocabulary be revamped? Some words don’t belong to a said level. Some super common are in additional lists, etc.

Thanks!

I’m here to learn, so more homework is always appreciated

This has been mentioned a couple of times elsewhere, but we are in the middle of doing this project right now. N5 to N1 is getting a major revamp in terms of both what vocab appears and at what level.

However, as for the issue of common words being in additional lists, this is just something that will always remain an issue due to the limited amount of vocab that is able to be reasonably put in the N-levels.

Awesome! So many questions finally answered, like the “の” for questions or the differences between the various ways to say “why”… Thanks a lot

Im a bit worried about how that will affect my stats progress  ofc a word learned is a word learned but

Interesting that a lot of these new points werent considered before compared to some others which are simply just vocab and not grammer. の in relative clauses and questions def deserved their own points for a while.

Maybe that will provide us motivation to re-fill the progress bar

I await anxiously for a vocab revamp

Great additions! The させてもらう phrase is used in official and formal statements very often, so I’m glad it’s finally added to the database!

Are these grammar points not available in cram? Don’t see them on the android app at least
