Is there anyway to turn it off?
Currently not.
Recently had a large project to add furigana to numbers.
Will look into this.
Out of curiosity, would you expect to be able to show/hide numbers on a per-number basis?
Probably no. Maybe you can add a toggle to show furigana for each number counter, like 千, 万, 億 etc, don’t see a point in showing them for 1-9 since most 1st week learners will have that down pat (maybe an exception for weird ones like ひと、ふた、み, or the times 9 becomes く。。。。Damn now I’m realizing how often 1-9 change readings. Maybe it’s better to just have a permanent toggle on/off function for all numbers that reveals the full reading for the number in question when clicked once, but doesn’t permanently change the show/hide setting for numbers if that makes sense. I really don’t think users want to double click a specific number each time they just want to make sure they remembered the correct reading for a certain number of days, months, people, pages, birds, cats, sticks or machines.
Not sure, at least globally would be nice.
Globally preferred for me too.

At least for now, I’ve made the individual numbers toggleable.
Let me know your thoughts.
When I have more time I can think about a potential better solution!
