Wow, we’ve surpassed 5000 already! Good work, but still a fair bit to go until we can buy our ticket to Aomori. For now, let’s talk about this thing:
This is an ‘oshibori’, a small wet towel or tissue given to you when you enter a restaurant.
It’s officially given to you for free, but many restaurants charge a service fee, with which you will get a small amount of food and one of these towels.
The towels are kept in a warmer in the winter, and in the fridge in the summer, giving you relief when you enter the restaurant from the severe heat, or cold.
When you read about them online, it will say that they are not for your face, but only for your hands. This is true, but it’s one of those traditions that nobody keeps to any more and all my friends tend to use them on their faces, too. Maybe that says more about the kind of people I hang around with, though…
