We made it to Wakayama!
Wakayama Prefecture
Wakayama Ramen 和歌山ラーメン
There are two types of Wakayama’s famous ramen: a deep soy sauce flavour and also a tonkotsu and soy sauce flavour. Tonkotsu is made from boiling pig bones for many hours so all the bone marrow comes out and gives the soup a deep, creamy taste. Many restaurants have their own variations of Wakayama ramen, but it is generally made with thin noodles.
Que クエ
Que is a fish that is around one metre long, found off the coast of Wakayama Prefecture. It is an oily fish with a deep taste and is often eaten in the form of a nabe (Japanese hot pot) in a soup with various vegetables.
Mehari Sushi めはり寿司
Known as Japan’s oldest fast food, mehari sushi has a history of being a filling lunch for people working on the mountains. Because the word ‘sushi’ is in the name, many people imagine that it is served with vinegared rice, whereas in fact, it is actually prepared using normal rice. As with a standard onigiri (rice ball), the fillings can basically be anything, but the unique point about this is that it is not wrapped in seaweed, it is wrapped in mustard leaves.
Our next stop is Japan’s ancient capital, Nara. The ticket only costs 3,300 yen, so our next target is 132,010. Let’s go!
I’m very happy to tell you all that I used the summer holidays to write the articles, and I just finished writing the last part of the Okinawa one. I’ve finished! I’m very much looking forward to sharing them with you in the coming weeks!

How much did you know about Japanese food before and since you started writing these posts?
128_991 (community total) + 56(my reviews for a few days combined) = 129_047
Basically everything about izakaya culture but very little about the famous products of the various prefectures, especially those I hadn’t been to before. Researching and writing all my mini articles has made me want to travel again!
129 047 (community total) + 29 (for the last few days) = 129 076 ( new total!)
129 076 (community total) + 31 (for the last few days) = 129 107
129 107 + 123 = 129 230
129 230 + 32 = 129 262
Those are some impressive review numbers! Great job!
