Yay, we made it to Tsu, Mie Prefecture! Let’s try some of their delights!
Mie Prefecture
Akafuku 赤福
Arguably the most famous souvenir in Mie Prefecture, akafuku is a traditional Japanese sweet consisting of mochi (rice beaten into an elastic consistency) and a sweet red bean paste. You can enjoy it in their main shop with a cup of tea, or buy it all over Mie Prefecture as a souvenir.
Ise Udon 伊勢うどん
Ise udon is Mie Prefecture’s famous udon. Udon is already known as a thick noodle, but this one is almost twice as thick as the average. It is served in a sweet, soy sauce-based soup and goes well with fish such as bonito.
Takone Sushi たこね寿司
This special sushi is originally known for being made by fishermen while they were out fishing. They would literally catch the fish and make the sushi there and then for the ultimate fresh treat. It is generally made with red fish, such as tuna or bonito, placed on rice and sprinkled with either seaweed or shiso, a Japanese herb.
