Yay, we’re in Kyoto!

Kyoto Metropolitan Prefecture

Matcha Sweets 抹茶スイーツ

When you think of Kyoto, you think of everything matcha green tea-flavoured. If a friend goes to Kyoto and brings me back a souvenir, it will 100% definitely involve matcha in some way, shape or form. The selection of sweets is absolutely immense, from ice cream and parfait to sponge and cheesecake. My colleague went earlier this year and bought me a famous sweet called yatsubashi, a folded mochi sheet with sweet red bean paste inside.

Kyoto Ramen 京都らーめん

Said to be the ramen with the richest soup in Japan, Kyoto ramen is divided into three categories: creamy, white white chicken soup, a soup made from boiling pig bones so the bone marrow comes out and produces a thick, creamy taste, and a soup made in a similar way, but with chicken bones and fat. All three unique flavours are very rich and are popular throughout Japan, not only Kyoto.

Boiled Tofu 煮豆腐

For people who appreciate the simple foods in life, this won’t be a long explanation. Simply put, tofu and kombu seaweed is boiled together in a pot and eaten with soy sauce and various other condiments. This is most certainly washoku (traditional Japanese food).

No it was just a tongue in cheek comment as Nara is famous for it’s deer… failed attempt at humour…
