Were in Kochi!

Kochi Prefecture

Patted Bonito カツオのたたき

Bonito is one of the more popular sashimi (rish sliced and eaten raw or seared) in Japan, and Kochi has a famous bonito dish. After being cut into thick slices and a pinch of salt has been added, it is lightly patted to seal in the flavour (hence the name) and then seared and served with yuzu vinegar and soy sauce.

Okra オクラ

Okra is a long, green Japanese vegetable with edible seeds. One unique characteristic is that the centre is gooey, which many people love, but, understandably, many (especially younger) people don’t. It has a slightly bitter taste and goes well on a rice bowl or with meat. It is pretty versatile, so go ahead and try it with whatever you fancy!

Fruit Tomato フルーツトマト

But tomatoes are fruits anyway! Yes, we all know, but this tomato grown in Kochi Prefecture is grown under special conditions, not receiving as much water as regular tomatoes and therefore concentrating the natural sugar. Many people don’t like regular tomatoes, so it is said that these ones, with almost double the amount of sugar as regular ones, are easy to eat, even for those people who don’t usually like them.
