Eggs are very popular in Japan, sure as eggs is eggs!
Eggs are eaten in so many ways throughout Japan! Here are some of them!
Atsukiri Tamago 厚切り玉子
Scrambled and fried in a square pan with some sweet or savoury stock, then cut into pieces. An amazing snack.
Ajitsuke Tamago 味付け玉子
Typically eaten in a bowl of ramen, this is a boiled egg that has been soaked in a sweet soy sauce, which permeates through and gives the whole egg a unique taste.
Hanjuku Tamago 半熟玉子
A half-boiled egg, which goes great with a donburi (rice bowl).
Onsen Tamago 温泉玉子
An egg boiled in an onsen (hot spring). The minerals give it a distinct taste.
Nama Tamago 生玉子
Plain and simple, probably the easiest Japanese-style breakfast. Just crack a raw egg over your rice.
Tamago Yaki 玉子焼き
A Japanese take on an omlette. You can have it as it is, but it is also popular with things such as cheese and mentaiko.
Medama Yaki 目玉焼き
Fried egg with a Japanese name. Done!
Yude Tamago ゆで玉子
Boiled egg with a Japanese name. Done!
Tsukadama 塚だま
And in one final shameless plug for my regular izakaya 塚田農場, this is a premium egg, which has a rich taste and is used in the restaurant’s cooking, from omlettes to puddings. The example below is on the oyako don (chicken and egg rice bowl).

@matt_in_mito The eggs dishes in Japan look like none I’ve ever seen! The Hanjuku Tamago looks really delicious after it melted on the rice!
I developed a bit of an addiction to them last year
An eggdiction?
