Persona 3 Reload Difficulty?

Just curious as to how difficult it would be for a full playthrough? If anyones played it before and could let me know I’d really appreciate it. And also if anyone knows some words that while uncommon show up in the game alot? It’s whole mortality focus I don’t really have alot of words for. Thank you

I have played a bit of 4 and 5 but never had the time to get into them properly (maybe played 20-30 hours of each). I think the thing people struggle the most with is the slang and general casual contractions, plus some of the 役割語 (“role language” - ways of speaking which aren’t used in real life but are used by certain trope heavy characters in fiction). It is definitely good practice for getting outside of “textbook Japanese”, though.

If you search on Youtube for “ペルソナ3リロード 実況” or similar then you can check out the Japanese level for yourself and see if you think you can handle it. 4 and 5 were pretty normal/average in terms of difficulty, for that sort of game/anime/younger adult native media, in my opinion. I think script data and anki decks are even floating around online somewhere, so hopefully someone can give you guidance on that specifically as well. Enjoy!

I thought it was too difficult to continue when I tried 2 years ago, simply because there was so much dialogue between save points. Like the 1-2 hours of dialogue that’s typical of a persona intro becomes 4-5 hours of translating, looking up kanji, and trying my best to understand everything. That resulted in me relying on putting the PS5 to sleep, and kept losing progress due to power going out way more that I realize. This kept happening before I switched to manga out of frustration lol.

If you’re on switch, the sleep mode will be more reliable and you can ignore all that.

I remember the typeface threw me off and radicals for kanji I thought I knew looked completely differently from how I learned.

I wouldn’t recommend for someone’s first game, but it really depends on your current reading/comprehension level. I remember the school quizzes being particularly tricky without a guide (which also resulted in loading a save and repeating segments) :p). Regardless of your level it will always be fantastic input and practice.

I recently gave 13 Sentinels a shot, and found it to be perfect for me now. I really appreciate how the combat/story sections are segregated, and the story chapters are concise enough that I can stay 100% focused without getting burned out.
