Play only the audio of the reviewed word (vocab)

Hi everyone,

I would really enjoy the possibility to hear only the word audio when reviewing my vocabulary.
Currently, the full sentence is being read, which a great feature. However, sometimes the audio of the reviewed word gets a bit “lost” when the audio of the full sentence is being played.

It would really help my brain memorize the word, and associate the word to its prononciation if I had the possibility to hear only the word audio when revealing the answer.

Maybe a option could be introduced to toggle between word and sentence audio? Or even better hear the word and then the full sentence after a small break.

Welcome to the forums, and thanks for the suggestion!

Currently this is only possible by opening the Vocab beneath the using the Show Info button (hotkey is F) and clicking the Play button in the Details section.

A bit of rigmarole, but that’s the only way to do it (for now)!

I second this idea! Would love to play the audio (grammar and vocab) when I get the answer correctly. WaniKani plays the audio of (only) vocabulary when you get a correct answer, so I think this would be a nice feature.

I understand that WK’s audio are just short words, so perhaps the implementation in Bunpro would need a different way of pre-caching the audio.

This would be really great alright!!

When you have hundreds of reviews per day, the difference between listening to a full sentence per review and just listening to the word is a massive amount of time.

I would like to hear each word as I review them to check my pronunciation, but listening to every sentence takes too much time so I don’t use the audio at all during reviews.

I think the devs just added this feature! Thank you so much! Sometimes it takes a bit for the audio to load, so you might have to wait a few seconds.

It’s worked at least for the grammar (sentences) and at least 1-2 single words for me (which I assume is vocab)

Yeah I just tested it out in reviews and it’s giving me audio for my flashcard style reviews :tada::tada::tada::tada::tada: beautiful

Now I just need a way to hear only the vocab but still see the sentence so I can get best of both ( ◜‿◝ )♡

Adding a quick sentence to the bottom of the Translate questions shouldn’t be too hard…

This would probably be easier than making the user choose between playing the sentence audio versus the vocab audio in Reading-type questions.

But would that sentence still cycle through the srs levels normally? Can’t say I wouldn’t miss the different sentences cycling through for the different nuances

I’m not sure how you would like make the 2 audios work together. But personally I would think a default option for which to auto play should suffice. Still keep the sentence play button to manually press, and maybe one for the vocab. So either one they choose for default, they can still hear the other manually
