Recommendations for getting started with Bunpro?

This is probably my fourth time coming back to try Bunpro in about six years.

I started with Wanikani, and I’ve restarted there twice, but I’m back on it and making good progress now that I’ve learned to adjust my daily lessons to a manageable level so I don’t get swamped.

One thing I never did with Wanikani on previous passes was read through ALL of the context and patterns of use samples. So now I make a point of doing those first thing in the morning before work.

I came back to my Bunpro account and realized I don’t think I’ve ever made it past the first three items in my first lesson. I reset and started going through the very first lesson (だ). I remembered that one of the things I liked about Wanikani (it basically holds your hand through each new item, with a separate page for radical, meaning, pronunciation, and context) isn’t really present with Bunpro. It’s just a massively long page of facts to memorize.

So I dug in and started reading, listening to samples, and I got down to the Online Resources (some aren’t working right now), and then the Offline Resources. The latter don’t seem to link to anything. I tried clicking around on the boxes and nothing opens. I don’t understand what I’m supposed to do with those.

Then I realized I’d completed missed a section on Vocabulary, and when I started clicking around on that, I realized I was going to get a whole bunch of new pages of things to memorize…And I haven’t even finished with だ yet.

I feel totally overwhelmed and not sure I understand how I’m meant to approach this very first page of the first lesson. What do most people do? Do you just start at the top of the page and work down, jumping over to the vocabulary learning list and knocking those out, then coming back to the original page? How long does one page usually take people to get through?

I feel like if I better understood how I was meant to use the site I would be more likely to commit to it, but it keeps pushing me away.

I’m not sure where you’re at with your Japanese level currently but if you’re restarting from ‘だ’ then perhaps it’s worth checking out the new feature called topics? It looks like a very nice way to get a full picture of the basics of Japanese.

Keep doing Wanikani in the background as you are. I would also recommend having a notebook or two (I split kanji study and grammar) to practice writing new kanji and to write out new grammar rules and a few example sentences using the grammar.

Offline Resources are resources found offline in the real world therefor the link wont do anything

Otherwise you may be overthinking stuff

You dont even need to remember everything
about a grammar point

I‘d just do 2-3 Grammar Points and 5 vocab a day and try to immerse in japanese media etc

I started Bunpro 3 months ago though I have been learning japansse with duolingo for a year and a half so I was already familiar with the early grammar (roughly the first 10 to 15 points) and already knew quite a bit of vocab.
I have around 100 grammar in N5 right now and what I do daily is read the blurb, read the examples in the blurb and maybe one or two provide examples bellow.
I never touch the ressources tab as most come from textbook I don’t have and I am not interrested in them to be honest (bunpro is the closest thing to a textbok I can go).

As someoneyoudontknow mentioned , you should try the topics that were just added to bunpro.
And as janjan2 mentioned I also think you overthink it, it’s fine to get things wrong and to not understand everything at once, don’t start learning all the vocab from each point or you will be swapped again.

I would do one grammar points and 5 vocab a day then increase or decrease after a week if you can manage to review. Don’t be greedy it piles up quickly and don’t fell bad to pause and not add new items for a while.

For grammar you can also try to first make them in read review instead of cloze and when you reach master levdl in reading. Reset them and do them again in cloze.
