Reducing Reviews?

Is there a way to minimize the amount of reviews. I am currently at 664 reviews after taking a needed mental health break for a few months. 664 reviews even with vacation mode turned on during that time away is way too much. It is incredibly intimidating and discouraging to come back to such an unmanagable amount of reviews. Any suggestions? I don’t want to completely reset my progress, I want to pick up where I left off.

Just confirming, when you put vacation mode on, did you already have that number of reviews due? If not, that sounds like a bug and I would tag one of the Bunpro staff here. Vacation mode is supposed to stop reviews completely.

to be completely honest, i don’t remember. when i was studying previously my reviews were usually around 200.

Hello and welcome back!
Here is the way to set a number of review dor the day, it’s hidden in the review settings and difficult’to’access.

The best thing that worked for me was setting it to do the reviews with the longest interval first. That way it’s the stuff that you are most likely to be able to clear first cause it’s the closest to when you would actually be reviewing the item anyway. And any you get right won’t be coming up again right away, so the count actually goes down. Ghosts do complicate things for this method in bunpro.

Huh, I thought there was a similar topic today. A couple people had suggested a strategy that involved doing cram sessions and setting the level based on how much you do or don’t remember the item. And either putting completely forgotten stuff into a deck or just resetting that particular item to take it out of reviews.

The most recent topic about it it this one, there was some good insight in it.

just do them in little chunks over the course of the day. whever you find the time - I really mean whenever, toilet breaks, waiting for food to cook, waiting in line at the supermarket, etc - do as many reviews as you can. even if it’s just 5 cards, it’s something.
you don’t have to finish all 600 reviews in one day. as long as you do more reviews than you would normally do, the number will eventually come done.

Been in this situation before.

As the others have mentioned:

  • Aim for a set amount each day and stop there (I personally stop at 50)
  • Set your Review filter to do higher level items first
  • Turn off Ghosts
  • Don’t Learn anything new

You’ll get there eventually!

Thanks, that was the one I was thinking of

I agree but two caps :

  • Review cap (5-10 items per review, ensuring short memory does the work for items that are still hard)
  • Daily cap (x10 the review cap → 50/100)

But also, if something just won’t stick at all no matter what, the deck method with the new beta interface works great :

  • Disable Lightning mode OR activate Info after fail
  • When a word won’t stay in memory after seeing it an arbitrary number of times (or you know it won’t stick if you review it), go to Info, put it in a “Later” deck, then remove it from active reviews
Kind of like Ghost but with card suspension + another deck
  • Do the current reviews until the daily amount is bearable again (or wait until everything is two weeks away)

With the decks beta, you can easily select every card in a deck and put them in active reviews
Oppposite is also true
