So one of the big problems that I’m finding, now that the cards are getting more advanced is how ghost reviews work.
They are essentially at the bottom of the pile, but I have about 120 of them at the moment. If I fail, I can show the correct answer I move onto the next card. I know there’s an option to redo the card and have another go, but it’s not really effective I don’t think. So you can get into this extremely destructive ‘Anki’ style loop, where you cycle round and round, again and again keep getting them wrong for no good reason, because you are expected to be able to memorise 40 correct answers in 10 minutes so that by the time the card comes back round, you will have remembered it perfectly.
What would be better, would be a little bit of a development of my ‘demon’ stage idea, where you would have to get the card perfect first before being shown another card. This way, you actually spend time on focuses learning for one card only, like real lessons would work. Then you have very small intervals like the 1 minute, 5 minute, 10, 30, 60 etc and perhaps a unique trait that the cards could appear in the same review session twice.
I think the current method of learning ghost stuff isn’t effective and it encourages unhealthy learning habits, where I feel like having a tantrum rather than focus on my mistakes.
While I’m also at it, is there an option in Anki to just show the correct answer if you’ve made a mistake instead of having to click on the ‘show answer’ button?
In general, I’ve I’m performing so badly on something, I want to feel ‘forced’ to get it right. This is about me adapting myself to Japanese, cutting off my square corners to fit into the round shaped hole. It’s military like.
