Review Pile-ups

Good day people. Have you ever had a day where your free subscription, and your streak ends? And then an angelic soul blesses you with a subscription through the community pool, and then you get so happy that you finish all you reviews that stocked up (200 BunPro + 150 WaniKani) that you want to fall asleep at 5 p.m.? Totally didn’t happen to me… Because I’d rather study for my exams rather than spend 12300 seconds, or 3.4166666666666666666667 hours (rounded to 3.5 hours because adhd) or 205 minutes or exactly 0.1423611111111111 days. (It takes 15-60 seconds each review. The average is 37.5, multiplied by 328 = 12,300 seconds)
Am I mad that I still wanna do more?

To be honest, a pile of 2,3 hundred-ish is nothing compared to those have been here for a long time. My pile can get up to 1000 easily, while I have seen pile of 4,000 before.

Wanting to do more is natural, BUT consistency win games, if you can achieve 0 remaining reviews each and every day for at least 2 weeks, then adding some more new words each day is fine.

There is always risk of burnout, when that honeymoon phase of Japanese fades, only strong habit/consistency prevails.

My man!

It took me a long time to learn that lesson. Discipline>motivation. Every time, all the time. Motivation is a bad word in my mind.

Stuff you add today needs to be reviewed the upcoming days, so you shouldn’t just ask yourself “do I want to do more right now,” but also “Am I sure I also want to do more tomorrow.”

But if you have exams, focus on exams first lol.

… 1000+… I hope I don’t let that happen…
Though I get my reviews down to 0 twice or thrice a day, or sometimes by 50% when I’m feeling down

totally… I do 10-15 reviews when I’m feeling down

Ok :slight_smile: good idea. But I don’t get why people stress over exams. I mean it only matters when there is risk of failure, which is when you don’t pay attention in class as well as study at home. IDK if I will study hard next semester or do Japanese and practice guitar daily for multiple hours…

I can understand your frustration when the is more and more reviews to do.
It’s great that you still have motivation and time to do reviews even when there are more important things that need your attention.

I guess, maybe you want to limit the number of new items you learn and maybe enable Vacation Mode?

I have my settings such that I do ~200 every day. Sometimes I do it all in one sitting (sometimes I’ve had as high as 300 in a sitting) but my preference is to not do more than 50-60 at a time if I can manage it. I try to do it a little by little throughout the day because it’s so quick if I only have a few to do. Sometimes I get really busy, though, and can’t get to it until the evening and that’s frustrating. Sometimes if I feel like it’s getting too high, I spend a few days not doing anything new and just catch up reviews.

I like to do wanikani bunpro and busuu daily so to manage them all without burnout I keep wanikani apprentice items at 50 max, bunpro I don’t learn new items if i have more than 50 reviews slated for the next day. It’s kept me from burning out and is nice

What? I’m innocent :innocent::sneezing_face:
