Reviews after vacation

Hey! After I forgot to set my account to vacation mode for a few days, my current reviews are over 1.2k and I honestly dont know where to start with reviewing them.

Is there any way to reset the reviews down to 0 without resetting progress? I was doing around 10 vocab and 3 reviews a day for a few months straight before the break.

Thanks!

I’ve done that myself a few times and it’s such a pain, I really feel for you! I do 5 vocab a day and usually prefer to go at a pretty steady pace, so having so many reviews at a time really is daunting. I’m not sure if anyone else has a better way of doing it, but I tend to break it down into chunks and set myself a daily goal to gradually whittle them down.

I recently took a break and forgot to put myself on vacation mode and came back to about 400 reviews, so I timed myself to see how long it took to get through 10 reviews so I could work out how long it’d take me to review everything. On average it took about 4 minutes to review 10 at the start while my memory was a bit rusty, but once I got back into the swing of it after a few days, it generally took about 2 minutes or so to get through 10 reviews. Let’s take an average and say it takes 3 mins to get through 10 reviews.

Depending on how much time you have to do them, your mileage may vary. But I tend to attempt to do about 50 or 100 reviews a day in a situation like this depending on how busy I am. 50 a day, split into two batches of 25 in a morning and evening will take about 7.5 minutes a session, or about 15 minutes a day in total and will mean it’s down to zero in 24 days. Or if you have more time, 100 a day split into managable chunks of four lots of 25 will take you about 30 minutes a day in total and will mean that it’s down to zero in 12 days- less than two weeks!

I hope you manage to get down them and back to a comfortable zero soon! And I hope you had a nice relaxing break, too. Good luck!

you could probably do them in batches of whatever you manage, and then just use the wrap up function. You won’t clear them all at once, but you’ll clear them eventually.

Resetting reviews to zero wouldn’t really be helping you, it would just make the number of reviews disappear for your eyes, but the workload would still be the same. It would have been the same if you would have used vacation mode. The only difference is, in this case you see how many reviews are piled up.

As @Lollypop said, I would just do a set amount of reviews a day (I think there is a setting for review batch size). I would do about the amount of whatever your daily review count was before the vacation and just do that without adding anything new.

The possibility is high that you forgot most of the beginner items, maybe even low apprentice ones, just remove them from your review when you notice, they will be added later again, when you start up with lessons again.

Keep in mind, vacation mode or not, the workload your brain has to deal with after vacation/pause would have been the same either way, not using vacation mode just made it visible to you.

When i have too many reviews, I tend to do them by the official decks based on books.
I mean this:
If I have 500 reviews to do.
300 N5 vocab
30 N5 grammar
150 N4 Vocab
20 N4 Grammar

I have added to my current studies lots of decks (to the marked section). And even I don’t add many cards from them, my reviews are splitted on many of them, so instead of doing 300 N5, I do 50 of Marugoto A1, when this is clear Marugoto A2, and so on with the officcial decks here.
This way is easier for me, as my mistakes are repeated earlier and I can remember them.
That way I slowwwly get the numbers down.
