Searching for words to add to a deck has a bad user experience

Hi first of all, I love bunpro and in general the user experience is very good and that is the reason I use it over Anki for example.

But I was trying to find 頭, a simple word that I wanted to include it in the deck just for completeness.

It gave me over 2600 results, I had to do use the chrome console to find those entries with 頭 as its only text and then focus one by one until I found the 頭 I was looking for (the simplest N5 one).

Maybe I suggest ordering by how good the text input matches the grammar or word? Then by N level? also, I was not able to find the ~て (Adjectives and Nouns) so something must be breaking somewhere.

Regards.

For context this is how it looks for me:

What is your sorting order set to? I just tried a search for 頭 with the sorting order set to “relevance” and the top results are actually for 頭 itself, not for other words.

It looks like I only got 649 results too, not 2600, so something is clearly different.

[Edit] Sorry, I only just realised you’re searching for the word to add to a deck. I haven’t played around with decks yet, so the search might work differently for decks. Considering the main search bar at the top of the dashboard returns very usable results, it’s strange if the search function for decks were to function differently. 649 restults versus 2600+ results is weird too. Why would running a search using a different search bar yield so many more results, I wonder?

Looks like this is a problem with the mobile app. It has filters, but you cannot sort by relevance

From experience in making a deck before, the adding option doesn’t have filters --even on desktop. You just search and hope to God that it matches. I have complained about it before and suggested the Bunpro devs just copy how Jisho.org handles search.

Yeah, I have to agree. I am working on creating a few decks at the moment, and it can be a little on the frustrating side.

I had the same frustration yesterday, I was starting a deck for the book “Total Japanese Grammar”, I already have in mind to share the deck after I’m done so I include I’ll beginner vocabulary, the search for 車「くるま」was quite the adventure, I think I had to resort to input the word in Romaji to actually find the item. Also the interface is lagging on Google Chrome and Safari (MacOs Sequoia).
