Slight confusion about 逸らす vocabulary point example sentence

The following sentence is shown on bunpro:

かららした。監督られました。

I missed the target with the bow. The coach got angry with me.

In general, the meaning as I have understood it is to avert [object]を.

The third definition listed is:
to miss (the target, ball, etc.)
Usually written using kana alone

However, this is the only sentence that uses that word with translation.

When I initially read it I thought it meant more along the lines of “I averted the bow from the target. The coach got angry at me.”

I thought it made more sense as a safety concern of accidentally aiming the bow somewhere off target than necessarily missing the target with a shot arrow.

Does that make sense or is this just understood to mean the shot with the bow when 弓を is used?
