I am trying to translate in Japanese one of my social network profile bios.
In English, I wrote that I was an “amateur gardener”—basically I like to take care of my garden and grow vegetables on my spare time.
The only word I know is 農場 and its derivatives for talking about farms and farmers, but it seems that these are used to talk about people that do this activity for a living, not for hobbyists like me.
Is there another word I could use?
Wouldn’t it be more natural just to straight up say gardening is your interest or hobby? Even in English, “amateur gardener” makes it sound like you are new to the profession of gardening (I’m not sure why though… it just sounds very strange).
