[Solved] Seeking advice about Bunpro alongside Wanikani

I came from Wanikani and got ~300 vocabulary there. I was wondering what the best way to approach learning using both.

I can import my data from Wanikani, but when I do, I assume I’ll start getting reviews on both platforms, and if I sync Wanikani and Bunpro, I was wondering if I’d get reviews from Wanikani on both platforms. And so if I did a review on Bunpro from a vocab acquired on Wanikani, I would have to manage my reviews on both and was wondering if it would sync with Wanikani or kind of mess up SRS.

If anyone has some general advice, please let me know, and thanks!

Follow-up; The main reason I asked this was because the support article on Bunpro’s website about Wanikani was blank, but I managed to find the original using the wayback machine and got the answers to my question.

I also came here from WK. I was level 5 and found out it is way too early to do grammar, so I waited and came back again around level 15. At first I synced items from WK but that just added hundreds of reviews, so I reversed it.

Best approach I found is to do only grammar, 1-3 lessons per day is fine. When I find some new word online, I add it to reviews here, otherwise I just add 10-15 new vocabulary when I feel like it. Over time, I got to about 3/4 of N5 vocab deck, 1/3 of N4 vocab deck, 100% of N5 grammar and going over N4 grammar now. I am curently level 22 on WK, so I think it is well balanced.

Just saw this, sorry for the late reply. But thank you for the information!

I chose to set all Wanikani items to mastered on Bunpro so that I only get reviews for the same item on one platform maximum, that was still a bit weird though as I had to set some items to mastered in the grammar deck, but it hasn’t been an issue so far.

I haven’t really been waiting to start grammar, it might have been a mistake, but I’m starting grammar at level 7. I’m not doing too much of it and I’m making sure to pace myself if it ever gets boring or confusing but, for the grammar I already know I might as well have that circling in my reviews. I also wanted some more vocabulary, so I decided to use a vocab deck on Bunpro, and since the items I learned on Wanikani are master on Bunpro, (as stated earlier I did in settings) I’m only getting the reviews on one platform at a time, and I can learn more vocabulary on Bunpro without having to unlock the kanji in contrast to Wanikani.

I think this balance works alright for me, but I’m defiantly focusing on Wanikani a bit more at the moment. I’ll step up Bunpro and grammar maybe when I get a higher level, level 15 seems like a good place to start as you started there and I’ll see how it goes. But for now Bunpro isn’t my main priority. Though I’ll still do some grammar.
