Study schedule

How do you plan your week of studying?
I work long hours and can usually only squeeze in an hour or two a day (also reviewing words and grammar on my breaks at work)
I try to do more on my day off
But my organization skills are bad
With all areas (kanji listening reading ect…) I can never seem to find a plan that makes time for everything

Try working on certain things (i.e. Grammar/Vocab/Kanji reviews) everyday, and others (such as Reading/Listening) every other day, or however you see fit. The days you have time, do everything. For example:

  • MONDAY: Grammar/Vocab/Kanji reviews + Listening.
  • TUESDAY: Grammar/Vocab/Kanji reviews + Reading.
  • WEDNESDAY: (Same as Monday)
  • THURSDAY: (Same as Tuesday)
  • FRIDAY: (Same as Monday)
  • SAT + SUN: (Everything)

You don’t have to do every single aspect of learning Japanese every day. I’m sure that, not only would that probably get old eventually, but it’s likely to be less efficient. The exception would be things that are being learned through SRS, just because it would diminish its effectiveness if you didn’t follow it properly.

HTH!

Do you have any recommendations for listening exercises?

In my case, I have a flexible routine with some minimums, let me break it down (I don’t have specific hours, more like timeframes)
Mi minimums are:

  • My Anki deck (own self mined deck) 30 new items a day.
  • Bunpro reviews and 4 new grammar points a day
  • RTK 50 new kanji a day (I just have like 200 left so after that I’ll start reviewing them again by this list The Joyo Kanji (常用漢字) - Kanshudo)

That alone takes between 2/3 hours a day and I try to spread it through the day until 6 pm.

After that, if I have something to do like grosery shopping or hanging out with friends at night or whatever, I’ve done my bare minimum and I don’t feel that bad, but usually I have free time so at night I usually immerse; (this means something from this list, whatever I feel like, I really try to not get burn out by this schedule so enjoying the process is key here):

  • Play Bravely Default on my 3DS full in japanese
  • Play たのしく・おもしろく 漢検小学生
  • Read some よつばと (this one is kinda easy but I really enjoy the characters and I have a couple of physical copies) or チェンソーマン online
  • Watch some anime, right now I’m watching ブルーピリオド and シャーマンキング
*Listen to podcast if I have to do errands or clean the house.

I also use Yomichan and ASB player to mine words from subtitles, right now I’m doing a monolingual transition with this guide (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSuH4lDl_bw) hope it helps!
