[Suggestion] Friends list

Hello,

I’ve recently started using bunpro for grammar, and i have a friend who also started recently. I know you can share your profile stats using a link, however from what i’ve seen if you want to see someone’s stats you need to click on the link to be able to see them, and the link expires after a few days anyways. Could it be possible to have a friends list feature, where once you click on the link, you can decide to send the person a friend request and if they accept, you’ll be able to see their stats whenever you want, for example by clicking on a “friends” button under the community one in the menu

This is something we have discussed internally in the past. What would you like to be able to see/do with a friend/friends list?

If we can get some good feedback/research about the overarching goals and things users want to be able to achieve by connecting with and seeing friends’ accounts, we should be able to come up with something that achieves those aims.

I would just like to add Jake as a friend :pray:

Maybe I’ll set up a “Small Fluffy Friends” list and invite select mammalian individuals…

Great! Then I’ll be on everyone’s “Small Fluffy Friends” list
I believe your research is now complete.

For me being able to have an overview on what my friends have been studying recently and their streaks (and for them to be able to see mine) would be the big thing. That way we’d be able to help each other more easily by knowing what has(n’t) been learned by the other, and the streak would be useful because i know that if i have a friend who can check on whether or not i skipped a day i’ll be less likely to do so

Sharing notes with friends could be pretty useful too (but with a checkbox allowing you to opt-in or opt-out of sharing a particular note).

But other than that, yeah just being able to easily see your friends’ stats and maybe send encouragements / congratulations on reaching some milestones.

I think something that would be really well supported by a “Friends” list would be maybe invites to/ability to create challenges? We already have these in the community forums through things like the races.

However it would also be nice to work with a small group of friends to say “let’s collectively get 500 grammar reviews done over the next month!”. I think group challenges is a great motivation for many people, and a friends list would really help facilitate that. It could also be worth restricting the creation of challenges to certain users (for example a certain level or paid status to make larger/more complex challenges).

you could have a type of 1 v 1/ team vs team contest mode that keeps track of accuracy and time taken to finish. all contestants would get the same set of review sentences irrespective of SRS level for that point (taken at random from the pool of 12). Whoever finishes with the highest accuracy (time if tied for accuracy) wins. You can have a unique badge that is transferable (to the winner upon losing a contest). You could also have other permanent badges associated with these challenges (compete in 10,20, 50, 100 contests, finish a contest within x,y,z time, finish a contest with 100% accuracy x,y,z times, win x,y,z consecutive contests etc). Bit of a tangent, but while I’m talking about badges, it would be really cool if we could have them visible on the forums, if not then it would be quite nice if we could create a type of avatar that could equip the armor/weapons themed badges which would be visible to our friends. the non accessory type badges could be a background of sorts or possibly converted to an accessory, something like a ghost pet for all the ghost buster badges. If that is too much work then maybe just make badges visible to friends.

I think for these contests it might be best to limit them to manual input reviews and to possibly disable the undo function or to give each player or team a hard limit of undo uses. You might also be able to add different modes that include simple flash games similar to something like quizlet’s race function.
