~suru you ni & ~shinai you ni [solved]

Sorry guys, my Japanese keyboard is not working on this laptop.
I found these two grammar structures in Sou Matome N3 Reading (page 24, yoku tsukawareru hyougen) and couldn’t find them on Bunpro.

Can anybody tell me anything about them? I’m a bit confused about the meaning/ translation. The book says:
~suru you ni (shite kudasai) - can be an order
~shinai you ni (shite kudasai) - for something forbidden

I don’t even get the shite kudasai in brackets…
Since it’s not the grammar book, they don’t give examples for each and don’t explain the exact meaning.

ようにしてください can be shorten to ように
しないようにください can be shorten to しないように
ように can function as request or light imperative

Based on @mrthuvi ‘s post, I believe you are looking for this grammar point: https://bunpro.jp/grammar_points/628

It’s actually a different function of ように which means “in order to”. The other function is to make a sentence becomes a request/command.

Thank you! I was looking for something with suru and I didn’t realize it was this one.

@daniellacda

ように
ようにする
ようにお願う

It is used when giving advice, recommendation or objecting to something. But essentially it is asking for some effort to achieve some goal. The する or 願い can be omitted.

約束を忘れない ようにしてください
Please make sure not to forget the appointment.
ように - to・so that
する - make effort
ください - please
忘れない - not to forget
約束 - appointment/promise

People say that teaching is repeating. Mrnoone is a good teacher then.

Nah… He clearly is under impression we are bots as well but we have very little RAM and storage so he sent us two packets and repeated most important data twice. Very weird File Transfer Protocol if you ask me xD But if it works then it works.

At least it was in form of a string so we can save some processing power on decoding. :hugs:
