Our second stop was at the Sannai-Maruyama Site (

). - archaeological site and museum located in the Maruyama and Yasuta (Aomori Prefecture, Northern Japan).
It contains ruins of large settlement from the JΕmon period ( 14,000β300BCE
ηΈζζ代
). which was designated as UNESCO world heritage site in 2021.
One can visit it and see reconstructed buildings and around 1700 artifacts found at the location like clay figures, jade beads, and chestnut pillars.
(Jade beads, probably used for shamanic purposes)
(Reconstruction of the most interesting structure, possibly watchtower or lighthouse made of chestnut wood pillars that were placed exactly 4.2 meters apart. The distance is very important because the 4.2m is a multiple of 35cm. Other structures using 35cm multiples were found in the area, which suggests that a measuring standard of sorts and tools implement it existed at the time!)
