The Vocabulary section needs a lot of work

Nice to see vocab section on here and only recently started using it, however ive got to say that it needs a lot of work. some of the answers im getting wrong are just dumb and i know you can put in your own synonyms but thats long and annoying because i basically have to do it for every card. look at these incorrect answers:

Ive got multiple anki decks which I will continue to use instead but just giving my two cents on the vocab section here.

Anyone else use it? what do you think?

Yes, they still need to do a lot of work on it, that’s why it’s in Beta :stuck_out_tongue: The example sentences though are an invaluable resource that surpasses any other I’ve encountered. I already mentioned some stuff that still needs work in another post I just replied to you in another thread, but I’ll list it here again :

  • When multiple entries under the same word, there should be an auto-show furigana option, it’s only a small QOL improvement, but it’s really bothersome to have to go hover over it to check.
  • Problems with brackets still aren’t resolved in most cases
  • A bigger synonym list
  • My personal biggest gripe with the current set-up is that it quizzes you with vocab in a vacuum, much like all other resources. They have wonderful example sentences, and if they could set it up to handle vocab in the same way as it does grammar this would be an incredible added value to the system.

I think most of my criticisms are being worked on, and it being in beta I expected these faults so it hasn’t bothered me. They’ll polish this up to something great yet!

Hi @joesan13 . Thanks for the post, and for a few screenshots of ones that we need to fix straight away. We are currently going through all of the vocab that is currently on the site (today), and fixing anything that doesn’t work purely due to things like parentheses.

The main reason that any of these mistakes make it through to the website in the first place is that when we are compiling lists, we are using excel, and have potentially thousands of words piled on top of eachother. After a while it can make one go a bit crosseyed and miss simple things like this fairly easily. This is not an excuse by any means, and naturally we will try to find ways to make each and every new release smoother, with less errors.

I will be doing a post about the synonym system a little bit later today (I’ll tag you here so you know when it’s up), so it would be great if you could stop by on that post and give your feedback there as well. We would love to hear it!

In the mean time, we are sorry to hear that you have had a negative experience with the decks so far, and would like to reassure you that we our doing our best to make them better every single day. :bowing_man:

WHERE can you access all this vocabulary??? I don’t see it anywhere on the main page. I managed to access the N5 deck one time from a link in an update notification and I thought I bookmarked it but it’s not under my bookmarks. I know it synced to my account or whatever because the words showed up in my last review.

How do I access it, someone please help

You need to activate access to the beta material in your settings. These decks are not officially launched yet, they are still in beta testing.

As @Marcus.W said, you need to activate beta stuff in settings. It’ll then be in the second section of the “Decks” page.

I’m in the same boat (already have huge Anki decks for vocab), so I haven’t really dipped my toes into the Bunpro vocab, but I am still glad they added the feature. While the issues you’re encountering are a bit annoying, did you know you can hit the backspace key to “undo” a wrong answer? Sure, the feature can be abused, I think it’s also useful for these cases where you know the answer, but just didn’t quite answer the way that was expected. I would use the Report button to suggest these variations. Over time, things will get better.

I use it, and for now haven’t encountered these problems (guess i’m lucky  ).
My pet peeve is that the srs level that is displayed when reviewing vocab is just wrong (until you make a mistake, then it suddenly refreshes correctly).
What i’d really love to see, just like @mathijsdm, is the possibility to review vocab with the context sentences.
I still have great hopes for this new feature

@joesan13 , added the new post about how we are planning on tackling synonyms moving forward 🙇🏼‍♂. Feel free to check it out

Just wanted to say that this is my #1 reason for not even bothering to try it. I can do vocab flashcards a million other places, and I’ve given up on using them as well because drilling whatever random vocab in a vacuum is just not helpful past the beginning stages of learning the language. If they were in actual context sentences, however, I’d be interested in checking it out.

I agree. I added the butt load of Kansaiben cards to the review pile and I really wish there was a context sentence to help me understand them in the review. Maybe it will make it too easy, but I think an option for a random sentence to appear during the review can help a lot.
