To be able to / られる

I’ve just added the grammar point られる. I don’t usually bother with the readings but this one looked pretty complicated so I went to the readings. The Wasabi one gives an alternative which is verb + ことができる. I can’t find this on Bunpro, shouldn’t it be included? Another question - I did my first review and got it right, but the alternative answer was something I’d not seen on the readings, maybe I missed it. I think it was みられう and the alternative was something else, but not みれる which is what I would expect. I seem to remember it was みえ something.

見られる
見ることができる
Those two are proper and you can use them interchangeably. Mean basically the same thing.

On the other hand, 見れる is ら抜き言葉. It is getting more and more popular, but it’s not a proper Japanese. Something like saying 'cause instead of because.

There is also 見える, “to be seen”, which can be translated as “can see” in sentences like:
空が見える。 I can see the sky. The sky is visible.
山頂が見える。I can see the mountaintop. The mountaintop is visible.

You can think of it as intransitive 見る。

God I’m thick, I’ve actually done that lesson and have a streak of 5! Maybe the search didn’t work for some reason.

You won’t believe this, just went to start my reviews and first one was ことができる!

Yea I agree, the search really needs to be upgraded. It almost never given me what I’m looking for unless if I type the exact Japanese title of the lesson, which I obviously don’t remember.
