Hello!

I’m just confused on how to pronounce ん when it comes right before ら、れ、る、ろ、り

I’ve browsed the web and different forums and haven’t got a straight answer. My understanding is this; to pronounce the “r” column words you have to click your tounge to the top of your Roof momentarily, but the “n” sound is so hard to get to so I can say things like 遠慮 But it takes like a full 2 seconds

your tongue should already be on the top of your mouth when you do the ‘n’ sound, so you just follow through from that position

If you’re thinking of “r” as a clicking of the tongue – where your tongue goes up, touches, then comes down – then think of “n” as setting your tongue already in position at the middle of the “r”, touching your middle roof, and then complete the “r” sound by flicking your tongue down.
The Japanese ん is more of a closing of your mouth/tongue, rather than a distinct English “n” where the tip of your tongue touches near your teeth. (But, なにぬねの puts your tongue up front.)
