Unable to use kanji when searching up a word in the vocab dictionary

Hey! I use bunpro both on mobile and on my computer, but recently with the JLPT coming up I’ve been using it for increasingly niche vocab lookups to add to my reviews.

My issue came up when I wanted to look up the meaning of the word 呑む (のむ), but as i entered it in Japanese on my computer, no matter how many times i refreshed the page or switched out my keyboard I couldn’t get kanji to appear on the search bar. Obviously, that led to most of my search results being redirected to the much more common 飲む, among others.

(note: I am aware now that the two のむ’s are very similar in meaning and overlap except for a few key usages, but using kanji would’ve made this obvious sooner.)

However when I tried it on mobile, I didn’t have the same issue? So i don’t think this is intentional like it is for the answer input.

any insight would be appreciated!

Unfortunately the answer is just that the website and the app are two very different systems, getting updates at different paces with different priorities.

A fix is definitely incoming tho.
The website search should behave a lot better in about 2 months (hopefully less), and should function a lot closer to other web dictionaries like Jisho.org.

There will likely be a post about that update when it’s released.
