I just recently got on Bunpro and have been testing out the different things I can do. I came from WaniKani and intend to use that for kanji/vocab for the near future. Since WK orders their kanji based on simplicity I have not learned a lot of the n5 vocab. I wanted to try out Bunpros n5 vocab deck, and I did for a few days, but I have decided I don’t like it because I dont know many of the kanji used in the words. So what im trying to ask, is there a way to undo those few days of the n5 vocab deck I did so I can focus solely on grammar? And in general are the bunpro vocab decks even worth doing without the knowledge of the kanji?
I don’t know if there is a way to bulk undo them, but I believe if you go into the N5 deck and choose the eclipses on the side of each word you added you can ‘Remove From Reviews’.
I am in the same spot as you, currently making my way through wanikani. My ultimate goal is to read, so I actually like the vocab decks in bunpro, as the example sentences are immensely helpful for me. At first I didn’t understand the sentences, but now (especially with 10ten/yomichan) I can understand most sentences, even the more complicated ones. These example sentences are also great as I can find examples of the grammar I have been learning.
I find it often easier to learn words rather than the kanji and all of its readings, so learning the vocab for a lot of words, even if I don’t know the kanji yet, is helpful for me and it make it easier to learn the kanji when I get to them in wanikan, as I already know a reading. Also, wanikani is good at getting me to recognize the kanji, but not great at recalling how to say a word or concept. The bunpro vocab sentences do that. They don’t just ask for a specific word translation for each sentence, but rather the feeling or meaning that the sentence needs to be complete.
Anywho, that is my two cents.
tl:dr I feel the vocab example sentences are great for learning, and I need a tool for word recall anyway, and bunpro fits that.
You can reset the vocab deck under Settings - Reset
Yes, because it consists of very many common words. No, because it’s easier to learn kanji on Wanikani first, and then learn vocab.
I also came from Wanikani and I find it easier to learn vocab if I already know the relevant kanji from Wanikani. On the other hand, there’s a lot of common vocab in the N5 deck and it’s a good idea to learn it early.
Do you use any textbooks? If you do, then there are decks for many of the common beginner textbooks, like Genki and Minna no nihongo. It might be a good idea to pick up Genki I and learn grammar and vocab in the order given in Genki. Then you learn the basic vocab fast.
