Using Wanikani API token in Bunpro

Just started using Bunpro today, and I’m wondering what the best way to use my Wanikani API token in Bunpro is. I can’t find a guide about how it all works, so I’m hoping someone can make things clear. In the Bunpro settings, and then in the General tab, there is a Wanikani section that has a space for the API key, under that is “Sync Master,” and “Sync Practice.” When I put in my API key from Wanikani, I clicked both “Sync Master” and “Sync Practice,” and it gave me 500+ reviews. So here, I have two questions. First question, if I only hit “Sync Master” and ignore the “Sync Practice” will that make it so the only thing that happens is furigana for kanji I’ve learned will not show and the reviews will go away? Second, is it worth it for learning purposes to sync both, and just do the 500 reviews? I did a few, and it was helpful to see the kanji/vocab I learned in Wanikani being used in a sentence but I don’t really want to do 500 of them unless it’s beneficial. Thank you!

I don’t have wk, so I don’t know for sure… But I was under the impression it’s either or. You can either sync the wk stuff as mastered so it never shows up, or sync practice if you still want to see it in reviews. I could be entirely wrong tho, so hopefully someone else chimes in to help you (◠ᴥ◕ʋ)

But I do know there’s a way to reset the sync entirely whenever you want if you change your mind either way

For the rest of your post, I would see it as helpful. There’s no way seeing your vocab used in sentences could be unhelpful right? It just depends on how much reading practice you want on them, or if you’d rather spend that time on something else you’d consider more beneficial than reviewing what you already know

Off-topic, but how are you level 34 if you’ve only started today? O_o

Vocab contributes to lvl XP too. So if wks already been synced, it definitely helps (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

Vocab completely messes with the level system which was built with the original grammar system in mind and hasn’t been updated since. It is essentially meaningless now, in my opinion.

I am of the opinion that there is no need to spend more time in SRS than necessary and the time is better spent engaging with actual Japanese. It is personal preference though.

I’m not sure how to do the box thing Cursed Kitsune did so my apologies if this reply comes out weird.

Like what IcyIceBear said, Bunpro gave me XP when I synced my WK stuff based on what I already learned which is why I’m not level 1 anymore.

The reason I started Bunpro was to help with Grammar, I actually didn’t even know Bunpro had a vocabulary component, so I’ll probably just focus on the grammar. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything critical by skipping the 500 reviews. Thanks everybody!

you can just highlight the exact bit of text you want to put into a box and you’ll see a little option that says ‘quote’ come up with a quotation mark. click on that and it should quote the box for you. You are probably correct to skip those extra 500 items that you’ll already know from WK. SRS is amazing, but insanely time consuming and can definitely lead to diminishing returns if you spend a lot of time reviewing what you should already know. You can also just use WK’s extra review option if you really want to practice the items you’ve already learned.
