The -上 grammar point is listed as saying “from the standpoint of,” and -からみると is also listened “from the point of view of.” Is there a usage difference? I can’t seem to figure out when you should use one versus the other.

Hey and welcome on community forums!
上 (じょう) is:
- a noun suffix
- is used with a small group of nouns
- is more formal
- has many other uses like (among others) stating a reason (本建物はセキュリティの都合上、無期限に閉鎖中です。due to security reasons (lit. based on circumstances, seeing the circumstances), this building is closed indefinitely)
