Vocab Mastery Level

Hi everyone,

I used to use Ankipro to learn my vocab (up to and with N3). For grammar I always used Bunpro.
After starting N2 Vocab with Bunpro however I noticed that vocab which reached ‘Master’ level simply never gets asked again. As I am worried that those words still end up forgotten after some time I want to have some way to keep those at Expert 2 so I can be certain that there always will be an opportunity to review them again. Is there some way to do that?

Outside of manually changing them on the vocab page, I don’t believe there is a way to do this as of yet unfortunately. There also isn’t a mass select feature yet so you’d have to do them one by one which will probably end up driving you insane.

What might be a better way to refresh those mastered items, is the cram function. Here you can select your mastered items and review them whenever you feel like it, you can also quit a cram at any time and come back to continue it when you feel like it. You will find the subset under the section numbered ② It is under a tab called special and is named SRS Master

Unfortunately, right now all mastered items (grammar and vocab) will be selected when you select SRS Master. Fortunately, somewhat of a workaround was discovered. You can see details about that in this thread. Hopefully this can help you out

I actually like the idea that we essentially “graduate out of” using flashcards to learn certain words or grammar structures. If you can recall a word after not having seen in for 6 months or however long it is, as long as you’re immersing yourself in some way, books, living in Japan etc, you’ll be fine. SRS systems are, after all, just a means to an end.

Thanks to both of you for taking your time to answer my question :slight_smile: I guess the other thing I will just end up doing in the end once everything is on master is just…reset the entire deck so I can review it again. At least until Bunpro releases such a feature.

Maybe not ideal, but something to consider doing:

  • Whenever you see the “Master” confetti appear, hit “Undo” and then get the review wrong.

This will depend on your settings though, as it might only be worth considering if it will bump down to Expert 1 or so (and your Expert reviews are set to show up only occasionally).
You could of course manually change the SRS level to Expert 2 again for each item, but that could take a bit longer to do :sweat_smile:
