けど vs けれども

sorry, but am i stupid or is this question completely backwards?
isn’t けれども way more formal?

It’s not just you. I’ve run into a fair number of these ‘backwards formality’ hints.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

You are correct that けれども is more formal than けど, so the prompt asking for a “less formal” answer was off-base.

We just mass-released several thousand updated and new hints, so it looks like this one slipped through with an incorrect prompt. I’ll be working on correcting these today.

If you notice anything similar in the future, please continue to report it. We try to address these kinds of errors as quickly as possible. :bowing_man:

I just wanted to follow up here and say that these have been taken care of.

Our apologies once again for any confusion.

Story time.

I bought into Migaku when they released the Japanese Academy level 1. I loved their plan of having a complete set of courses (1-3) that would get me all the way through the N1. And it was a quality product, too! Throw in the browser reader and flash-card maker, and I snap-bought a lifetime membership.

But Migaku did not want to compromise on quality, which sounds admirable, but it means that although it’s been literally years since releasing Academy 1, they have yet to release Academy 2, let alone 3. As a result, I no longer use Migaku. I wasn’t going to stall my progress by waiting around for some unknown period while they got everything ‘just so’. So I came here, to where all the content I needed was already available.

Timeliness matters. This website is riddled with minor errors, or translations I dislike. But you put it out there fast, and you fix it fast, which means we all get a useful product now, which is when we need it. ‘Agile development’ in action.

Long story short, I hope you guys don’t beat yourself up about these little mix-ups. In the real world, ‘perfect’ is the enemy of ‘good’, because you can deliver ‘good’, but ‘perfect’ never arrives.

Keep up the great work.
