It’s not just you. I’ve run into a fair number of these ‘backwards formality’ hints.

You are correct that けれども is more formal than けど, so the prompt asking for a “less formal” answer was off-base.
We just mass-released several thousand updated and new hints, so it looks like this one slipped through with an incorrect prompt. I’ll be working on correcting these today.
If you notice anything similar in the future, please continue to report it. We try to address these kinds of errors as quickly as possible.
