'と' vs 'と一緒に'

Good morning,

I was just wondering if someone could clarify for me the nuance that ‘一緒に’ brings to a sentence like this: 来週家族と(一緒に)旅行に行く.

What would be the difference between puting ‘一緒に’ in and letting it out?

Short answer:

“with someone”
“together with someone”

Longer answer:

と is a case marking particle and marks the comitative case (which happens to be translated as “with” in English although と doesn’t grammatically mean “with”).

一緒に is an adverb, pretty similar to “together” in English.
