Inspired by my realization that I slacked hardcore on the vocab part of the JLPT I decided to go add vocab decks to my Bunpro. I didn’t for a long time because I was focused on grammar and I don’t like seeing the empty progress bars.
For now I decided to add the N5 list (for reference, I just took N2) and just mark whatever I’m extremely confident about as mastered, but I’m noticing a few “blind spots” among the otherwise easy stuff.
Here’s some of mine:
あげる、くれる、もらう - At one point I had these perfect. Somehow, I get くれる jumbled again recently.
始める、始まる; 借りる、返す; 入れる、入る
Basically transitive and intransitive verbs of all kinds get me messed up still.
But most annoying of all: katakana words*!!!
Most of those I know the word, but I don’t remember how to spell it perfectly. There’s been many an annoyed Amazon/jmty/mercari search where I think “come on, I know this is the word, how on earth do you spell this???” (Recent offender: マシュマロ. I was typing stuff like マッシュマロ, マルシュマロ, and マーシュメロ.)
Now I’m wondering: what are everyone’s blind spots? Maybe together, we can overcome them and take notice of their existence.
No shame in having them. Let’s double check our weak points together!
*Whoever imported the word ホイップ or ホワイトshould be sent to jail. Where did the ホ come from?
