What even is "correct"?

I’ve seen some posts but not quite with an answer to my question.

If the grammar/vocab in question I can remember, I can mark it as correct, right?
But at times, there are OTHER words in the sentence I have no idea about yet. Is it then still okay to mark it as correct?

When I then cram those things (all early N5 btw) in for example listening mode, there are so many things I don’t understand. I’ve been watching anime for a long time so I generally understand what the sentence is about or what is being said even if I don’t technically understand every word, is it then correct to mark as correct when I got the jist of a sentence but not WORD FOR WORD?

Well really you can do what you want, but I would generally say if the word/grammar you’re being tested on is correct then I would mark it as correct. A lot of the example sentences are at a very different level to the word in question. For example, there is are N2 level example sentences for 犬, but I don’t expect someone still learning what 犬 means to be anywhere near N2. So it’s definitely not expected to completely understand sentences 100%
