What path am I on when I click 'study'?

Forgive me for my lack of knowledge in regards to the site, but I don’t understand the difference between “path” and “study”? Like, if I wanted to follow a path, would I have to go to the path page every single time I wanted to learn something new, and never click study? And on the flip side, if I click study (like I have been doing) am I learning things at random or…? I have noticed some of the things I’ve learned are really out order… Like for example learning something that requires -te form conjugation, and then much later prompted with “oh btw here’s te form and some links to read on that”

am I just doing this wrong?

Most sentences were written before the “paths” feature so they’re intended for you to follow bunpro’s lesson order rather than the order of the paths which are based on various textbooks. If you go through the level as bunpro intended you will rarely (still happens) come across sentences with grammar points you don’t know.
As for the where the study function takes you, you can amend it in your profile settings but it can only be set to one of the N levels.
