Besides talking to myself in my head while I’m trying to go to sleep, you mean?
I’m at a high N5/low N4 level (I think), and I’m working in a book that OMG Japan calls Beginner Japanese Sentence Training. It has interesting exercises. I worked through it for about the first 15 lessons, then got bogged down and went back to the beginning, and I’m finding it much easier the second time through. (It’s not the only thing I was doing during that time that helped me improve, though.) There are 90 lessons, so I have plenty to look forward to.
It’s not really conversation, of course, but it’s helping me work toward that. I find it just challenging enough. There’s an excellent answer booklet that offers a number of different options for how to say things. The first time through those 15 lessons, I had to look at the answer sheet to answer many of the questions, just to see how I might possibly word something (or what on earth they actually wanted). Even so, I found the exercises worthwhile. The second time through, I’m much better able to see how to express my ideas without help.
For listening, I’m mostly listening to YouTube videos for beginners.
