When did you burn your first item in Wanikani?

Hello everyone,
So I know this is kind of bizarre since I’m asking to the bunpro community, but I’ve figured I’d give it a shot anyway

But for those who use Wanikani in parallel with Bunpro, when was your first time you burned an item? I’m legit curious so I can figure out what is my “Learning” type regarding kanjis

And for those who don’t use Wanikani when was your first time that you mastered an item on Bunpro? 'cause I’ve noticed this takes way much time than burning a kanji

Don’t know about Wanikani, but I’ve been using Bunpro for close a year and manually-mastered items aside I only started to see Expert 2 level items pretty recently

I was around level 12 or so on WK when I burned my first item. Granted, I also took significantly longer on a couple of levels due to medical stuff, so I imagine I would have been level ~15 if not for that.

Just recently, actually. I’ve restarted learning a couple of times, so I don’t know for sure how it compares to the progress of someone who hasn’t walked away and restarted multiple times, but I strongly returned to studying right at the beginning of the year, and my first batch of burnt items arrived on May 30. I currently have a total of 60 items burned, 23 Radicals, 12 Kanji, and 25 Vocab. I am on level 7, but I expect to hit level 8 tomorrow. I only need to Guru one more Kanji to level up, and I am very confident that I will get that last item in the next 24 hours.

For a more complete history, I started WaniKani 5 years ago, and struggled to really get started with it, so I ended up starting, taking a break, coming back and resetting, etc, a couple of times. I reset in September of 2025, only managed to stick with it for a couple of weeks before life once again got in the way of motivation, but then returned on Dec 31 of 2025. This time around I felt a stronger motivation to learn, and it was a short enough break that I didn’t feel the need to reset yet again. Since Dec 31, I’ve only missed a total of 14 days of reviews or lessons this year, though some days were definitely far weaker than others.

it seemed like it took forever to burn my first kanji, but now that I’m almost 3 years into WK, I burn a lot of stuff without even realizing that its time for that item to be burned lol

it feels like less of a big deal to burn something on bunpro for some reason. I cant really say how long for sure it takes me to burn something here because I dont take BP as seriously as WK. Mostly because WK is a nightmare if i let it get out of hand, and BP feels a bit more forgiving. I often take short BP breaks to the point where I’m finally burning some N5 stuff that is extremely easy, and I’m between N3 and N2

They say you always remember your first, but I can’t recall my first burn. Perhaps it came at a time when I was in the process of clearing out my mind, or around a place or moment I was trying to forget.

Maybe there was an inconsiderate guy at the coffee shop who hogged up a table for 5 so he could layout all his study materials, maybe I was at a bank and was told “next” right as I got my first burn, it could have been a lot of factors.

I don’t remember my first, but my last one…yeah I don’t remember that one either, or the one before that. But if I burn that last item and Seth Rollin’s theme doesn’t start playing right as I burn it, I might not remember that one either.

I feel like I did some guesstimating from looking at the Bunpro intervals that it takes about twice as long to get something to ‘master’ on bunpro. Roughly six months for WK to a year or slightly less for Bunpro.
