Which use of 大嫌い is correct?

Hi! N5 here. Struggling with the use of 嫌い、 好き、 and their 大 variants.

I am writing a story for a school paper; The title for this story is: “Iris-san hates ice cream.” The title will be in Japanese. would it be grammatically correct to use: “アイリスさんはアイスクリムが大嫌い。” Or, "アイリスさんは大嫌いアイスクリム。” Or am I wrong on BOTH attempts and there’s a better way to phrase it?

My guess is the first option, because - if I understand right - が marks the ice cream as what Iris hates. Just looking for others’ input here, any help much appreciated!

The first one is fine!

The second one is just wrong. You would need a な between 大嫌い (な-adjective) and アイスクリーム (noun). Even if you changed that, you’d be saying Iris is the thing that is hating ice cream.

Once again, the い in 嫌い gaslights another helpless N5 into thinking it’s an い-adjective.

Thank you for your help! Your explanation was in depth and has helped me understand a bit of the nuance.

Like @lunchbox1 said, the first one seems fine.
The second one is incorrect for the same reason they mentioned, but to me it reads more like “Iris is a hated ice cream,” which is definitely not the intended meaning.

The main thing I wanted to add is that I’ve personally never heard a Japanese person refer to ice cream as アイスクリーム. Typically, it’s just アイス in everyday conversation.

I’m sure アイスクリーム is used sometimes, maybe in more formal contexts. since you are making this the title for your article, it might be more appropriate to go with the shorter, punchier version.

The intended audience is pretty much exclusively English and the article is a fiction story, so I believe short-handing the title might be phonetically confusing should someone copy paste it into google translate. (Both the Japanese and English translation will be in the title, probably should have mentioned that in the first post, ha ha ha.)

However, I didn’t know they referred to it as just アイス and will definitely try to remember this fact. I, unlike the Iris in my story, do love ice cream.
